On a Personal Note (Recommendations for Carey):

As a Director Carey had a way of encouraging her staff to meet the needs of each student where they were intellectually and emotionally. She loves trouble shooting difficulties with struggling students and provided us with great ways to encourage and show them support. She was not a talker; she was a doer. We knew that if things needed to get done, she wouldn’t rest until the need was met. She made every staff member feel heard, appreciated, and like a valued team-member. Our team continues to talk about her legacy, as she is the sole reason many of us instructors work there.

Carey’s passion for helping others reach their highest potential is undeniable and honorable. When I see myself in a unique situation, I often ask myself, “What would Carey do?” I admire Carey more than she will ever know because she is driven, experienced, and has this warmth that makes you smile. If you have questions, she won’t stop until she finds the answers. Rest assured, you will be in great hands with Carey guiding your way.

*Excerpts from letter of recommendation for Carey Shannon.

As a highly respected member of the 1st Grade team, Mrs. Shannon routinely volunteered to help our teachers, parents, and students to be successful both in and outside the classroom. She suggested innovative and creative solutions to problems we encountered as teachers, and she was always the first one to step up and take the lead on a task or activity. She was a true team player and one that was able to work with some of the more difficult staff through her excellent communication skills. In the dreariest of times, Mrs. Shannon was known to bring laughter and lighten the mood so we could continue as a team.

In the classroom, the children loved and respected Mrs. Shannon’s creative and professional approach to teaching. While being sensitive to the needs of children, she had high expectations for appropriate classroom behavior and academic achievement which brought the best out in the children. As a new member of the staff, Mrs. Shannon worked hard to understand the many facets of our program. She also made many positive contributions to the team based on her varied experience in other districts.
